What is Blending Reality Productions?
Blending Reality Productions (est. 2013) is a collective founded by four graduates and young emerging artists from McMaster University’s Theatre and Film Studies program. Enriched through studies rooted in the theatrical practice of devising, we spent our academic careers participating in productions both on and off stage. Using our educational and practical experiences, we formed Blending Reality Productions, which was developed through mutual respect and admiration for both theatre and film.
Our team is committed to creating high-quality projects in collaboration with other young artists.
Jessica Marshall - Co-Founder
Jessica has had a passion for writing and performing ever since she was a little girl. Jessica started studying theatre in high school at St. Mary and wanted to broaden her knowledge of the arts at McMaster University, where she majored in Multimedia and Theatre & Film Studies. In her final year at McMaster, Jessica co-created The Bell Ringer for the Honours Performance Series. At Raindance Toronto, she received her television writing certificate and her producing certificate. After learning about the creative process of producing films, Jessica became eager to utilize her expertise throughout her professional life. Now a jack of all trades in both theatre and film, Jessica is excited to contribute to the creation of productions with her co-founders.
Taryn Crankshaw - Co-Founder
Taryn is a graduate of both Sheridan College’s Performing Arts Preparation and McMaster University’s Theatre and Film Studies program. In addition, she has also trained at Second City’s Training Centre in Toronto as part of their Improvisation program. She has performed in past theatrical productions such as Shakespeare Soup (Maria/Witch), Framed: A Story of Artists (Police Officer), and Unity: (1918) (Sunna). She also has worked on films such as The Yellow Wallpaper (Rachel) and May (Ballet Classmate). When Taryn is not performing onstage, she enjoys working as a playwright and co-director on such productions as McMaster’s orientation play IRIS and the original production of The Bell Ringer. Taryn is very excited to be a part of Blending Reality Productions and looks forward to working on future projects with her fellow co-founders.
Cameron Love - Co-Founder
Cameron has always had an interest in movies and the performing arts. After discovering his father’s camcorder at an early age, he aspired to learn how the movies he admired were made. Cameron discovered he had a knack for improvising and performing during drama classes in elementary school, however, once high school came around he avoided drama altogether and shifted his focus towards business and marketing courses. Despite the change in his studies, Cameron always had the idea of performing in the back of his mind. In a gut decision, he decided to double major in Theatre and Film and Communication Studies over Commerce when he attended McMaster University and has no regrets. Over the course of his time at McMaster, Cameron has worked on several theatrical productions including McMaster’s Welcome Week performance IRIS. Through these shows, he met Taryn, Jessica and Concetta and collaborated with them on The Bell Ringer for their final thesis project. From there, Blending Reality Productions was formed and Cameron’s journey into the professional side of the theatre and film industry began.
Concetta Roche - Co-Founder
Concetta is a recent graduate of McMaster University’s Theatre and Film Studies program with a strong passion for theatre and music. She has been involved in many plays and musicals within the Hamilton and McMaster communities. Her most recent credits include Jamie’s Gone (Hamilton Fringe Festival 2013), Fiddler on the Roof (McMaster Musical Theatre 2014), and Fast Food Love (Hamilton Fringe Festival 2014). Concetta’s goal in life is to pursue a career in performing. She loves entertaining others and enjoys seeing the outcome of each performance and the effect it has on audiences. Concetta is excited for the public to enjoy the plays and films created by Blending Reality Productions.
Michael has a Public Relations Graduate Certificate from Mohawk College and an Honours B.A. in English and Theatre and Film Studies from McMaster University. He has carried out various roles in theatrical productions such as designing the sound for Framed: A Story of Artists (SOTA Fall Major 2011), performing as the innocent victim Jeremy in Locked In (Honours Performance Series 2012), and co-writing/co-directing Terms and Conditions (Honours Performance Series 2013). He hopes that the films and plays created by Blending Reality Productions will be enjoyed by people from all walks of life.
